On March 13, 2025 Alderfer Auction is proud to offer historical autographs from the George R. Siddall (1868–1901)/ Edgar F. Hosking Jr. (1821-2005) autograph collection. These autographs will be part of our Fine and Decorative Arts auction. Offerings include autographs of Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, other U.S. presidents and politicians, Astronauts from the Project Mercury space program, Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mark Twain, American Civil War generals, Douglas MacArthur, George S. Patton, Susan B. Anthony, Robert E. Lee and others notables from the 19th and 20th centuries

George Robert Siddall was born in 1868 in Philadelphia to Charles an Margaret Siddall. A dedicated student upon graduation he was employed by an apothecary. In his late teens George began to collect autographs of various politicians and persons of note, which served as a base of this offered collection. Health issues resulted in George passing at he early age of 33.
George H. Siddall’s great nephew Edgar F. Hosking, Jr. ways born in 1921 and worked for U.S. Guage in Sellersville, Pennsylvania. As well as being active in his community and church, Edgar dedicated significant effort to collecting and obtaining autographs of important historical figures building on the collection that was started by his great uncle George in the nineteenth century. Edgar spent time writing letters to Presidents, governors, politicians, astronauts, military officers, musicians, scientists, writers/authors and other persons that were notable and in the news. In sharing with the community as was his nature, Edgar Hosking Jr. would display and make presentations regarding his collection and the hobby of collecting autographs.
