Civil War Ballard carbine in .54 cal with 22" round barrel. Left side of frame is stamped in 3 lines "MERWIN & BRAY/AGT'S N.Y." followed by carbine serial number"1191". Right side of frame is stamped in 2 lines "BALLARD PATENT/NOV 5, 1861" Carbine has good bore. Carbine's metal surface exhibits overall toning with surface of stamps buffed to make more readable. Wood exhibits wear with some light abrasions and digs.
