Factory engraved Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver bearing the serial #226258E (matching serial numbers) in .31 caliber percussion. Pistol presents a 4" octagonal barrel. Frame, barrel, backstrap, trigger guard, and hammer exhibit significant decorative engraving. Top of barrel present two-line stamping"ADDRESS COL. SAM COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA". with left side of frame stamped "COLTS/PATENT in two lines. The cylinder is stamped"COLTS PATENT No" followed by serial number and is engraved with a stagecoach robbery scene. Serial number indicates that the pistol was manufactured in 1863. Pistol exhibits some of its bluing and case hardening with some areas exhibiting a pleasant gray patina with cylinder scene still strong. Pistol exhibits extremely light abrasions and digs to wood grips. Frame exhibits some minor abrasions and two small digs to top of barrel. Gun would rate fine in NRA antique firearms standards.
