Now Accepting Bids!

The Fine Arts Auction brings together a wide range of jewelry, silver, watches, fine art, tall case clocks, Scotch, and autograph material. Jewelry leads the sale with numerous 14k and 18k gold pieces, including multiple yellow gold bracelets, woven and braided forms, and tanzanite and diamond-set creations. Highlights include the Van Cleef & Arpels emerald, ruby, and diamond brooch, along with designer selections such as an 18k woven-link bracelet by John Hardy and several gemstone bracelets that add variety across the category.

Silver is one of the most extensive portions of the auction, anchored by the Dominick & Haff / Gorham sterling silver tea service. Other significant offerings include Wallace “Campania” sterling flatware, Welsch 900 silver chargers, a Bailey Banks & Biddle sterling tray, a Georg Jensen sterling bar set, a Georgian sterling epergne, Gorham sterling vases, a Jean Lucien Ferry silver and glass caster set, and a Graff Washbourne & Dunn sterling service. Additional entries include Gorham / Lenox sterling and porcelain pieces, a Georgian British dish cross, and several flatware and service assortments spanning American and European makers.

The watch section features a substantial group of Swiss and international wristwatches across multiple makers and case styles. Rolex is represented by a 14k yellow gold ladies’ Rolex, a Rolex Oyster Athlete, and two Rolex Oyster Perpetual models in stainless steel and classic Oyster configurations. A major highlight is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, an example of the brand’s well-known integrated sports watch design. Breitling appears prominently with a broad selection that includes the Breitling Emergency, Emergency Mission, Breitling B-1, Chronomat, Aerospace, Jupiter Pilot, Old Navitimer, the Breitling for Bentley Motors, and the “Top Gun” Navitimer. Additional offerings include the Cartier Santos Galbée and two Eska 18k gold automatic wristwatches with cloisonné dials.

Tall case clocks are represented by multiple examples attributed to Peter Stretch, Thomas Stretch, and David Rittenhouse, three of the most respected names in early American clockmaking. These clocks reflect the Philadelphia tradition of longcase construction, with characteristic period cases, brass movements, and dial designs associated with these important makers. Their inclusion forms a notable portion of the auction’s historical offerings, with each clock representing a distinct example of 18th- and early 19th-century American craftsmanship. Other clock offerings include David Wood and David Studley shelf clocks, and bracket clocks by Tiffany and Co. and James McCabe.

The fine art category offers works by Alfred Nunamaker, Maude Drein Bryant, John Singer Sargent, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, George William Sotter, Walter Emerson Baum, and Charles William Ward, spanning landscapes, portraiture, impressionist subjects, and traditional academic compositions.

When the auction goes live, lots will be sold one lot at a time, in numerical order, by a live auctioneer who will be taking bids from multiple online bidding platforms, absentee and phone bids. During pre-bidding you can submit a “Max Bid” (maximum bid). If you want to leave a max bid, make sure you are the highest bidder before you place your max bid. The bidding platform or our auction staff will bid on your behalf up to the maximum bid that you have entered.  Once the auction goes live if you wish to increase your bid you will have to wait until that lot opens for bidding and enter any additional bids manually.

Because multiple bidding options are present, identical bids may occur on the same lot, without notification to the bidder, prior to and during the live auction.

The various bidding platforms being utilized by Alderfer Auction do not communicate with one another.

The winner of the identical bids is determined by the order in which the auctioneer recognizes/accepts the bids in real time. Based on the start price and all other competing bids, it is possible for an absentee bid, either online or in-house, to fall off-increment and land in favor of another bidder at the absentee bidder’s maximum bid. In all cases, the auctioneer makes the final determination over which bids to accept and in which order.

Auctioneer’s Authority
The auctioneer retains full and final discretion in all matters relating to the conduct of the auction. This includes, but is not limited to, the right to determine bidding increments, to reject any bid, to resolve any dispute between bidders, and to reopen bidding at the auctioneer’s sole discretion. The auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding.
